May 2019 – It was hot day on the water for our two Junior teams at the Alabama Bass Nation High School Junior Championship on Lake Eufala this weekend. There was a lot of excitement that morning for the teams of Fair/Sanders and Peters/Choquette as they blasted off from Lakepoint. The junior teams usually have to weigh in before their High School counterparts, however, today they had the whole day to themselves.
Alabama Bass Nation did a wonderful job of celebrating the future of the sport and had all the sponsor booths and fanfare set up just like a upper school event.
Despite their best effort, including a big 4 pound fish from the Fair/Sanders boat, both teams came up short at the scales. Fair and Sanders finished 29th and Peters and Choquette finished 37th. Both teams were only able to bring in 2 fish and that hurt their bags. The post-spawn transition threw both teams for a loop and caused them to miss out on some key fish.
Spirits were not down at the end of the day however. Both teams showed very good growth throughout the season and had plenty of awards to go around including both first place and big fish awards. Headland Bass Team has a bright future with this bunch.
