May 2019 – It was a day of musts for a few members of the Headland Bass Team fishing in the East Alabama Bass Trail on Westpoint Lake. Hudson Choquette and Aaron Cherry had to maintain their 12 point lead in the Angler of the Year race, while Alexis Grandstaff and James Quinlivan had to finish well to climb as high as they could on the AOY ladder.
As the scales setteled Choquette and Cherry ended up on top of the Leaderboard with a 13 pound bag that anchored their AOY position. They were able to to upgrade throughout the day with some key culls as the dock bite turned on in the sunshine. Their firts place finish would earn them a trip to the Bassmaster High School National Championship if they were not already qualified.
A strong performance anchored by a 4 pound largemouth Saturday placed the team of Grandstaff and Qunlivan right where they needed to be to get a prized spot to the Championship.
Headland was also able to pick up the East Alabama Trail Team of the Year award for the 3rd year in a row. We were able to finish first for 3/4 of the tournaments this year and finished 2nd today.
We would like to thank Mr Eddie Daniel and his staff for taking the time to put this trail together. His passion for the kids and the sport shows.
The Headland Bass Team can be found next locally on Lake Eufaula for the Alabama BASS Nation High School State Championship June 7th and 8th.
