Headland Bass Team at Outdoor Sklls Learning Event

17 Feb 2019 by Mark Choquette Jr

February 2018 – The Headland Bass Team was enthused to be invited to the first annual Outdoor Skills Learning event this past weekend. The team and other local youths in attendance were there for a focus on “The Challenges of Following Through in life.” The event was held at beautiful Lake Semm in Headland, AL, and it was hosted in collaboration by Wiregrass RC &D, Headland National Bank, and the Extension office. After a wonderful keynote address by Coach Gene Dews, the students went through stations that focused on conservation, water safety, and hunting and gun safety. These talks were highly interactive and engaging. The talks were hands-on and questions to the panel of experts were answered thoroughly and in depth. Following lunch they were able to split up and take advantage of both fishing and clay shooting. The fishing opportunities were expanded thanks to donations by Boyd’s Marine, Corps of engineers, and Big Bite Baits. Students received clay shooting instruction and opportunity thanks to Ravenwood Sporting Clays. Events like these allow our anglers to show their passion for the outdoors and allow them to meet students with similar interests. We are very thankful for the Helms family to make this event possible at such a beautiful place. We are already looking forward to next year.
